Assessment of student development is an ongoing focus of teaching staff who gather information about the students in their classroom as each semester progresses. Student development and assessment information is recorded by classroom teachers and is available for parents to view upon request. We employ an extensive tracking and foundation skills testing process to monitor student progress each year. In Grades 3 - 6, a computer program is used to supplement teachers' regular assessment of student reading habits and skills and online on-demand testing is utilised to monitor foundation skills development. Students in Years 3 and 5 participate in the National Assessment Program for Literacy and Numeracy (NAPLAN) which provides valuable information about the success of our teaching and learning programs.
At the conclusion of each semester, a report card outlining student achievement in each domain of the Victorian Essential Learning Standards is produced. Report cards are sent home along with the Reflective Portfolio.
Student achievement is linked to the following age-appropriate levels:
Level One: Usually students will attain this level by the end of the first year of school (Prep).
Level Two: Usually students will attain this level by the end of Grade Two.
Level Three: Usually students will attain this level by the end of Grade Four.
Level Four: Usually students will attain this level by the end of Grade Six.
Teachers endeavour to make assessment as explicit as possible and actively involve students in classroom assessment processes. At Quarry Hill Primary School, our mission is to encourage students to take increasing responsibility for their learning, through the development of goal setting and reflection skills. In their future working lives, our students will be expected to be able to evaluate their strengths and weaknesses and identify strategies to improve.
